More than 484,778 students will sit for the baccalaureate exams planned to take place next June.
The total number of candidates has increased 8 % this year, with an increase of 6.73 % for girls and 9 % for boys compared to June 2012, noted the Ministry of National Education in a recent press release.
As to the distinction between private and public education, the number of candidates from the public sector has increased by 1.5 % (302,766 students), while independent candidates represent 32.7 % (158,435 students) of the total number of candidates to sit for the exams, which is an increase of 26 % compared to the previous year.
Conversely, the number of candidates in private education has declined by 4.9 %, from 24,803 candidates in June 2012 to 23,577 applicants this year.
The distribution of candidates based on their fields of specialty highlights the predominance of general education, which accounts for 91.89 % of the total number of candidates, far ahead of technical education (6.74 %).
Other fields of specialty such as Letters and Original Teaching (Arabic and Islamic education) attract 222,485 candidates compared to 262,293 candidates in "scientific and technical" orientation, which respectively constitute 45.89 % and 54.11 % of the overall number of candidates.
Besides its efforts to ensure the smooth running of the baccalaureate exams this year, the Ministry of National Education is working on the establishment of criteria to be implemented at the national level, in a serious bid to ensure equal opportunities for candidates and the credibility of the results.
